With love, to my beloved leaders
Sir,
I’ve been the grass in a bull’s fight many times and I know how messy it can be.
The very act of a bull’s fight can stall development, reverse progress and undo what has taken many years to cultivate and nurture.
Egos, settling of scores and politics for the sake of politics are a threat to the development of our nation. The MPs squaring up against Cabinet and Cabinet not going down without a fight is something this country doesn’t need.
What we need are true leaders. Shepherds who will take a bullet for their sheep. Leaders who know that the real enemy is poverty, corruption and ignorance. We need leaders who will take care of our people; leaders who will take a bull by its horns.
Greed and pride should be avoided as deadly poisons. Instead, our leaders (politicians, pastors and fathers) should lead by example not by words. Talk is cheap and, as the Bible says; "in the presence of many words, sin is not absent". We can prove to be a great nation if we come together and make the most of every opportunity, loving our neighbor as we do ourselves.
Lastly, I would like to thank this newspaper for the opportunity it affords us all, for making every voice heard, even if it differs from the crowd. I’ll applaud it as a true spirit of building this nation, building the bricks that will form a great nation for us. Thank You.

Dear Thokozani Kunene,
Thank you for your kind words; we ourselves would be purposeless without our readers, such as yourself, whom we thank for your support, encouragement and criticism.
It is only by taking other people’s praise and criticisms into account that one can know where they stand in other people’s eyes. Without accurate criticism, our decisions and the way we express ourselves often remain unexamined and we can end up making decisions based on fundamentally flawed premises.
This is something every professional needs to take into account and, in fact, the ability to divorce professional from personal criticism (both in the giving and receiving of it) is what defines a professional.
But criticism must be alternated with praise to be useful and, as it is the festive season, we would urge all our readers to go out of their way to look for reasons to praise the people around them for the value they bring to life. There is a lot to be hopeful for if we only take the time to look.
