COPPER CABLE THIEVES FRUSTRATING US

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

 Sir,

Thank you editor for allowing me space in you wildly read newspaper. May I lament the rising rate at which copper wire belonging to the Eswatini Electricity Company (EEC) is stolen in our area. Most homesteads have been left without electricity for the past three to four weeks here, as thieves had cut and stole the electricity cables carrying the power to their houses. About 20 to 30 homes have fallen victims of this illegal activity.

Appreciate

Special thanks to the residents of Mphosi who have taken it upon themselves to deal with the culprits. We also appreciate the immediate response from the Siphofaneni police, who usually come to collect the suspects once they have been caught. On another note we condemn the tendency of the scrap dealership companies in town of buying the stolen electricity cables from these thieves. This trade between the thieves and these companies needs to be closely monitored by the police.

Replace

Households are greatly inconvenienced once these cables have been stolen. EEC usually take about four weeks to replace a stolen cable and the household owner is made to pay for the reconnection amounts ranging from R4 000 to R5 000.

Appeal

We also appeal to every family from our area not habour these criminals in their homes as it believed that they come from faraway places to commit the crimes in our community.
