CAMPAIGNS DOING GREAT JOB

Sir,

The issue of the pandemic called COVID-19 has seemingly overpowered all the other pandemics. We as citizens have turned our eyes and put our focuses on this virus instead of just killing two birds with one stone. We have forgotten all about the past events, how HIV also devastated many lives. It seems as if COVID-19 matters the most now but the campaign is here to remind us that amidst this new pandemic, the old and ongoing pandemic called HIV still matters. One thing I can understand about this campaign is that it is and will always be here to open our eyes in such a way that we may never forget that the lives of those having this old virus and the means of protecting ourselves from it still matter.

As slowly as it may kill compared to COVID-19, does not matter that much, the results are the same; lives are being lost. As much as COVID-19 is fatal, so is HIV. This campaign is all about switching our mindsets and reminding us to keep our eyes on the ball instead of focusing on the game alone in order to save thousands of lives. Testing for both viruses is the most effective way of staying safe. Knowing where you stand especially when it comes to HIV is important. One cannot protect himself if he does not know what he’s dealing with. Both viruses are deadly and testing for them is the first stepping stone.

The health department has made it easy by providing self-test kits so there are no excuses in testing for HIV. The same thing applies to COVID-19, testing centres are there; just test and protect. If one is positive for both viruses then he or she must make sure to take all the safety precautions, taking the provided medications; ARVs in particular in the HIV section and avoiding large crowds in the COVID-19 section. Preventing both viruses is the second option. For many, abstaining from sexual intercourse to protect oneself from HIV is still an effective way and of course staying at home when it comes to COVID-19 is important. But if one is exposed by any way to both viruses he or she must have the protective gears namely rubber gloves, condoms in HIV and masks, sanitizers or washing hands with soap and running water in COVID-19. Over and above the best way to protect yourself from both viruses is to prevent them because prevention is far better than cure.
