MANZINI-NHLANGANO ROAD MESS

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Sir,

To what may be referred to as the most contributing factor to the steady increase in road accidents in the country, the Manzini to Nhlangano road is one of the roads that we can reluctantly say  will soon land its users in a mess. It is not only a problem to the daily users of this road but it also affecting those who live near it.

I don’t want to believe that the relevant people have not seen it and observed that this road is a disaster waiting to happen. The sad reality is that thousands of emaSwati use this road on a daily basis and as a result, they are at risk of not reaching their destinations and those lucky enough will be forced to return to where they travelled from alive.

Trenches

The road is flooded by potholes from all angles and some of these holes are slowly by surely developing into huge trenches. Where are we really heading to with such a burden as a country? It is so unlike us. What exactly is to become of us when people’s vehicles, bought with their hard-earned cash, are shoved into ditches in broad daylight? This is heartbreaking.

This road may also manifest into a perennial sore for tourists; it is not at all user-friendly to its regular users. If at our disposal we don’t have well-constructed roads, a negative picture is painted to those who use the road regularly and even to people who visit Eswatini.

Ducking

As a matter of fact, we cannot afford having people arriving late at their workplaces and miss out on paramount meetings just because they were busy ducking and diving potholes.

It renders everybody irresponsible. May those responsible of fixing this road free the innocent road users from this incarceration. We want to have safe and prosperous road trips.

People have gone to the extent of using the long route to Nhlangano. They have resorted to travelling from Manzini to Big Bend and then to Nhlangano. This is so painful and unbelievable! The seriousness of this matter has indeed become the biggest fish to fry for everybody.

Appeal

This letter serves as an appeal to the people who are supposed to fix this road. Can the works to fix be started before even the festive season commences. It would be very painful to have a lot of people losing their lives as a result of the road. An ounce of prevention is better than a pound of cure.
