CALL TO LEGALISE ABORTION

 Sir,

I would like to respond to an article titled ‘Women support call to legalise abortion’. It is very disturbing when such evil is being advocated by a respectable member of society. In Exodus 20:13, God says ‘Thou shall not kill’. It is a straightforward, simple and easy to understand command from the King of kings.

This commandment was not meant to stop people from killing animals, but it was to prohibit people from killing one another. Isaiah 33:22 says; “For the Lord is our judge, the Lord is our lawgiver, the Lord is our King; He will save us.” The laws of God supersede any human laws. The fundamental human right is the right to life, hence no one has got the authority to take a life of another person except God, the giver of life.

Terminate

A fetus is a living human being and to terminate its life is tantamount to murder. So, legalising abortion would be equivalent to legalising murder. According to Numbers 35:33, the shedding of innocent blood defiles the land and brings a curse to the people of that nation. We already have enough challenges to deal with as a nation, so we should not add more. The argument used to support this evil is very senseless, because you can never correct a wrong with another wrong. The issue of the killing of children by women because of rejection, paternity and lack of support from their partners are isolated incidences, which do not warrant the call to legalise abortion. What guarantee do people have that after the legalisation of abortion the killing of children by their mothers would stop?

Concerned

As far as I am concerned, we should be looking at the root cause of such incidents and find a lasting solution instead of resorting to murder. I believe that this is more of a physiological problem and government must come up with programmes that would address such and educate women on how to deal with issues of rejection and avoid taking out their frustrations on their children.

The other argument was that abortion should be legalised because of the high rate of teenage pregnancies. The bottom line is that teenagers are being irresponsible; by having unprotected sex they must bear the consequences of their actions. As a nation we need to deal with the root cause of teenage pregnancies and find a lasting solution instead of resorting to murdering unborn babies.

Values

We are a Christian nation and we have our values anchored in the principles of the Bible. Therefore, we must not succumb to pressures from the international community to legalise things like, abortion,  prostitution and same sex marriages, simply because of the financial aid that comes with it. Why has money become more important than preserving the lives of our people? The Bible says; “For the love of money is the root of all evil.” Lastly, I would like to appeal to the body of Christ in Eswatini to rise up and stand against such evil. It’s time not only to pray, but to also take action and make our voice heard. We have been silent for too long and the devil is having a field day.
