WHEN MEN FORGET THEIR RESPONSIBILITIES

Sir,

Being a man is not solely and entirely dependent on one’s virtue of birth. Having multiple partners does not mean you will be an outstanding man. Growing up with certain beliefs is among contributing factors that distinguish a boy from a man. One renowned philosopher, L Lewis once said; “Some people are old at 19 yet some are young at 90. Age is just a concept humans have created.” No matter the number of years you possess, if you have not grown enough to become a man you shall be exposed. The first responsibility that men have given a cold shoulder to is taking care of their children. It is painful not to be taken care of yet your father is alive but doesn’t bother about your whereabouts or simply to check on you as a child.

Essence

That is when the essence of manhood is lost by most men! When they are not respected by their children they become quick to blame the people who raised them. They are quick to see wrongs in women; the same wrongs that are a result of their petty actions. That’s how old daddies are subjected into becoming small boys. Boys have a variety of choices to choose their soulmates, and girls are approached by many different guys and who try to convince them that they are the one. However, in a nick of time the inconveniences that have been brought about by men not taking care of women instead of abusing then from dawn to sunset. Women are thoroughly beaten, hailed with insults and killed.

Raised

Being raised in such an environment is catastrophic! Some families are divided and have never reconciled. Do men realise that the more they abuse their families the more they lose value? A tree is known by the fruits it bears. Even if men can convince us that they have changed but if we cannot see that through their actions, to me they are as good as dead. We cannot live on the earth that God gave us dominion over like we are in a zoo.

Act

If men don’t act now, the boys who are growing up will follow their footsteps: knowing that a woman is a tool to be used. We can go as far as we want, blaming other people for the ill-treatment given to women but the truth of the matter is parents groom rascals from a very tender age until they get married or engaged in a relationship. From as young as possible, boys must be taught to respect girls. Inculcating this early will breed a gender-based violence free society. Men will know their responsibilities. Let us act now because tomorrow might be too late.
