WE SHOULD LOVE OURSELVES!

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Sir,

Some time back I saw someone I went to school with; back in high school she had the kind of beauty that no one could take away from an African girl.
Then less than five years later, her face looked totally different.

There is nothing wrong with some women but a standard introduced to us by the media has led people to start finding fault with every aspect of their bodies.
How have we allowed this to happen?

For the people who lose a body part and want a new one, I am all in favour of this.
If I had had a battle with a life-threatening disease and won, I might want to move on by fixing the scars and trying to rebuild a stronger, newer version of myself that I felt confident in.

Amazing

I might not, I might be so happy to be alive and not want to go anywhere near doctors if I didn’t have to. I am not too sure how I would react because I’ve never been in this situation.

For anyone who has, you are amazing, however, the way you want to deal with your recovery is your business and should be supported by everyone.
But I am saddened by the rising number of people who feel the need to risk everything purely for cosmetic reasons. We should be educating people more on how brilliant their bodies are, just the way they are.

Wrong

Who decided what women are supposed to look like? Who issued the decree that if you don’t have a certain body shape/size then there is something wrong with you?

We don’t allow people with an eating disorder to starve themselves to death; we step in and try to help.
So why are we not trying to help these other people? Is it because they pay a lot of money into a growing industry that is seen as socially acceptable?
Ladies please let’s stop this growing trend of altering our bodies just to fit into societal expectations.

Perfect

Let us stop abusing our already perfect parts to try and reach a silly beauty standard that was made up by people who never subjected themselves to such.
Let’s encourage our young women to love themselves regardless of how flabby or not they might be.
