LETTER TO MINISTER NTSHANGASE

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Sir,

I hope that my letter will further enlighten you and impact a little more wise counsel to you that will result in assisting you to properly appreciate the complexities of our times.

Benjamin Franklin once said; ‘‘Rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God.’’ I am sure you agree with me that he was absolutely right. He was a great statesman, diplomat, politician and intellect and mostly, he was a deeply courageous  man who was motivated by his deepest convictions and his Christian values. Minister, we are pensioners,  and let me tell you even though we respect your office, we will not bow before you, we will never worship you, we will not relent in our effort not to applause you, and regardless of your threats and intentions, we have absolutely no fear of you.

Fate

This is because our fate and destiny and the future of our beloved country lie in the hands of the living God, not in the hands of of any misguided and tyrannical dictator. Injustice, persecution and tyranny last only for a season.
With this in mind, and regardless of the dangerous counsel of the hardliners and extremists that surround you, I urge you to please stop this drama you want to create.

Advisers

No matter what your advisers and those in your inner circle tell you, this is our money and we knew who we want to look after it. This brings me to another issue which is a cause for grave concern. Your stated resolve not to obey our wishes in choosing Sibongile Mazibuko into the Board and to deny the pensioner’s rights to their choice is not only an affront and gratuitous insult to us, but it is also a violation of the Constitution. As a head and minister, you have absolutely no power or might to interfere in the process of how we as pensioners guard our money from fraudsters.

We have our own rules and regulations and leadership and Our choice is to guide and guarantee a total complete independence from your office. As a matter of fact, we are charged by the laws of the land and Constitution to act as a check and balance on you as to ensure  that you do not abuse your power or subject us to tyranny over our money.

You have no right to tell us how to administer our money. Again, you have no business with who we choose, which law we want pass and how to run our affairs. You cannot be a prosecutor, judge and jury in a matter that doesn’t concern you. This is especially so when you initiated those proceedings and you are the accuser. To attempt to do so in not only unacceptable and irresponsible but it is also heartless and unkind. The fact that our senior and respected lawyers have refused to tell you this simply because they are scared of you or because they are looking for patronage from your government, does not mean what you are doing is lawful or acceptable. What you are doing is morally and legally reprehensible and is unacceptable in any democratic and civilised society. In the same vein, you have no right to try and stop our choice from executing her duty. You have no right to attempt to cower Sibongile Mazibuko or intimidate her. What are you afraid of?

Mr Minister, I wish to remind you that it is an incontrovertible fact that we the pensioners have chosen Sibongile Mazibuko as our choice and no other. What we want from you is fairness and respect. If you refuse to address our numerous and legitimate grievances and you refuse to treat us with understanding, sensitivity and compassion that we deserve, then we will fight you. That is the bitter truth.
May the Ancient of Days Grant you the wisdom, knowledge and understanding to do the right thing.  Stop this drama, it is not worth it. May the Lord of the Universe give you the foresight and the insight to appreciate the fact that as pensioners, we cannot survive under such.

Colleen Matsebula.
