DO ASIAN SHOP OWNERS CARE?

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Sir,

Our lives are under threat as a result of Asian-owned groceries. Each and every day they charge us exorbitant prices yet most of their products are either expired or of poor quality. It pains the heart to spend money on something that has expired or is spoiled, only to be rebuked for demanding a refund.

On Monday, May 13, 2019 I bought a 2-litre Sprite at Embikwakhe. I drank two cups of it with my nephew and fortunately my sister came along.
Before pouring she looked for the expiry date, as she has had many altercations with shop owners over expired items, only to find it had expired on April 3, 2019.

Refuse

We were gob-smacked and felt defeated as we knew that the Asians would flatly refuse to hear or refund us as we had already drank some of it.
Buying at the shop is like playing a game of dice. Most of the foodstuff they sell has expired; mealie-meal and flour are always spoiled.

It is painful to always buy foodstuff collected from the dumpster with their prices inflated. Big shops, when their products are nearing the expiry date, they lower the prices but not grocery shops owned by Asians.
Exposing

They either rub off the dates or conceal them from prying eyes. Where are health inspectors to curb this? This is exposing us to disastrous sicknesses?
I remember one of my nephews having blisters and boils on his private parts and we thought it was his urine that was the cause as he was three years old. Each time he used disposable nappies, he would wake up with blisters on his private parts.

Allergic

Alarmed, we rushed him to hospital where a doctor revealed that he was allergic to a chemical. We couldn’t put two and two together as the disposable nappies were out of our minds. Then later we realised that the cause may be the disposable nappies as they had no expiry date and their fasteners were always loose. Disposable nappies also have expiry dates and when used after that they pose a great danger to babies.
Do the shop owners care that their products are posing a threat to the lives of babies and young children? No they don’t care but it’s the money they are after by selling expired and poor products they fancy.

If healthy inspectors were doing their work diligently would we be fed rotten stuff? Do they grade shops? Asians are robbing us in broad daylight, heartlessly inconveniencing our health with their expired products. What kind of investors are they when they evade tax by banking under their beds? Does the road map help us here? But we can’t blame the Asians who take our lives for granted but the emaSwati who, on Swazi Nation Land, rent out their properties to shoddy businessmen with the sole intension of accruing astronomical profits. I miss the time when health inspectors did their inspection randomly!
