ABUSE OF STREET VENDORS

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Sir,

After observing and scrutinising the abuse on unlicensed street vendors in our various towns, I have decided to raise the alarm.
I have seen a lot of vendors being physically abused by security companies personnel guarding our towns, specifically Crime Stop Security and Kwekwe Security.

Yes, it is illegal to trade without legal documents but do these people know how it is to wake up every day with children crying of hunger?
Won’t they decide to go out and try something to put in the table just for your family to eat?

The police keep arresting people in the name of thieves not knowing the reason behind that activity. I’m not saying I condone such activity by those who do thievery.

unemployment

With the rate of unemployment rife in our country and capital to start businesses is so hard to get and so are trading licences, why does government keep harassing illegal traders?

Those people employed to chase and arrest illegal traders are employed and every month end they smile all the way to the bank for doing something so heartless. Why don’t we stand up and fight our government to provide us with employment whether you have a certificate or not? Where is the unity in us people?

It does not matter whether if those traders are emaSwati or not but they all have one mission; to put food on the table for their families like all of us.

disturbing

It is very disturbing to watch vendors being beaten, dragged and their wares being taken away yet they are trying to make a living too. I have even developed hate for the people who abuse these traders.
Let’s work together people to fight unemployment.

The King is preaching vision 2022 but are we going to attain it if we fight against each other?

Are we really going to move above the poverty line in this way if we keep fighting striving Africans because government can’t offer them jobs?
We can all fight this crime rate if we review some of our laws. Let’s work towards vision 2022 together. Remember ‘individuals play the game, but teams win championships’.
