FIRE SIHLANGU COACH!

Sir,

An odd two years ago, I slouched away on my couch in a rather pensive mood as I absorbed the reasons advanced by the local Football Association (FA) in terminating the services of the then national team coach, Harries Bulunga.
If my memory serves me well, the FA’s main gripe with Bulunga was his failure to win games against highly- ranked sides in the region, presumably South Africa and Zimbabwe and this was irrespective of the phenomenal success he had obtained with the national team in the regional COSAFA tournament and AFCON qualifiers.

While personally I have no difficulties with the FA’s assessment criteria, and for all intents and purposes we should really be progressing and competing with higher-ranked sides and if I were in charge of the FA, I would certainly want to retain a coach who is capable of ‘punching above his weight’, so to speak and who can consistently deliver results at the highest level and against more competitive sides.
Fast-forward from my experience two years ago and the same FA which aptly used its criteria in terminating Bulunga’s services is now stuck with an inept coach who musters every reason under the sun for his failure to win even a single match with the national team.

Excuses

I’ve lost count of his excuses in defending his record of not having won a single official match, and as a parting shot all I am asking the FA to do, is that it applies the same evaluation criteria it used when it dismissed Bulunga from the national team, and personally I have no doubts that the criteria would give an unambiguous conclusion on a coach who has not won a single official game, not to mention international friendlies against lower ranked sides.
