BEING AWARE, OBSERVANT

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Sir,

Prior to following what I now follow I considered myself observant and aware. Today I know differently; I am still on that journey daily learning more as I examine each and every one of my thoughts, reactions and emotions. I love the quote ‘an unexamined life is a wasted life’.

I had to find a reason for many of my spontaneous reactions; where they originated from and why I had elected to ‘adopt’ that modus operandi. It became an eye opener when I realised I was using ‘a one size fits all’ in my dealings with others. I had not taken into consideration that I walked about with so much baggage from the past. This baggage was holding me back; it was preventing me from fully experiencing life.

I was unconsciously punishing others for the deeds of those who had led me to pre-programme myself in my attempt to ‘defend’ myself not realising that this strategy prevented me from ‘trying’ different reactions to have different experiences. This resulted in a boring and monotonous life; something many today refer to as ‘normal.’ There is no reason for people to ‘defend’ themselves, unless they believe the whole world is against them and they adopt this strategy to ‘survive’.

Weird is it not that the ‘one size fits all’ strategy is practiced by many despite them not being aware of it and of course I have to admit, one size does not fit all and I vowed never to ever purchase anything with such a label for they never go over my thighs.

The habit of ‘attack is the best form of defence’ was something that constantly hovered in my subconscious mind. In my endeavour to get others to simply comply with what I desired I would use the shock strategy, always ‘thinking’ I was one step ahead. I now realise in my anticipation of how I expected them to react, I would actually create that situation.

Today I know better, I anticipate nothing, expect nothing and then experience always the highest feeling of living the moment, enjoying and savouring the moment, dealing with things as and when they arise, in total relaxation for that moment is the only moment I am really sure of. This of course permits one to experience an extraordinary life daily which results in one living life with zest and enthusiasm.

As you read this you will realise that you too have to start doing this exercise if you are to live your life consciously and with awareness. You will slowly remove the dross that has thus far hindered you from uncovering your true pure self. Other habits such as biasness, judgement, expectation, etc will also have to be addressed and this is what makes the whole process a journey.

Since all these were acquired over a period of time, it will also take time to reprogramme the mind and I cannot totally define that sense of achievement when one ‘consciously reacts’ to another and gets a different result permitting one to experience elation, something not found in the so called ‘normal’ living (for more go to: www.inalda.co.sz).
