‘FIRE DE JONGH – MPS’

Sir,

The whole back page of this publication last week described MPs openly asking ‘he who has nothing to do with soccer matters’ to have the recently hired (by whom exactly?) coach fired?

I questioned this minister’s lack of involvement and was told with a ‘Right to Reply’ in pretty much no uncertain terms that the man cycles, dances and receives goodie bags but has absolutely nothing to do with decision making at the NFAS, yet here are MPs with a very similar line of questioning?

I was even told that he has nothing to do with organising friendly soccer matches and I should contact the NFAS if I think a particular small nation’s success might be of use to Sihlangu? I have noticed that despite the above protective comments from a SNSRC media officer the minister recently does seem to have had himself pictured with the football fraternity at large and he has been giving some input and making some general comments about football in the kingdom; about time too!

I also noticed that after my ‘put your comments in order’ ‘Right to Reply’ the last paragraph of this latest article now sees a change of tune from his ministry saying; “We will consider the concerns of the MPs because they are the voice of the nation, which funds Sihlangu.” The SNSRC media officer previously said; “Certainly such football governance matters are not a responsibility of our minister.”

Are we seeing a complete turnaround, peer pressure has made him see the light after my comments were unceremoniously thrown back at me? If this attitude was there when the ridiculous appointment of a coach with no CV but a very rewarding contract took place; who knows, it may never have happened? The coach who’d definitely turned a corner may have continued the success he’d created early in his tenure, we’ll never know but here we are after the fact wondering exactly that.
