Mbabane has become a deplorable city
Sir,
I write this letter today to express my sheer anger at the management of the Mbabane Municipal Council. This so-called management has slowly allowed the city (now township) to become a deplorable place. The city can now literally be referred to as a shanty town which is dirty beyond imagination.
Everywhere, and I mean everywhere, there are illegal street vendors. The city is littered with dirt and street vendors who carry out their business on the pavements, making it very difficult for us to walk around. Near the Ritz Cafe the Asians display their goods on the pavement and the people mainly from the east also sell all kinds of fruit and veggies. This street has been annexed by dirty street vendors.
The bus rank takes the crown. There are people who have farms now in the bus rank yet they do not pay even a single cent in rates. The only thing is that they make life for us very difficult. At the bridge towards Swazi Plaza (and also Sales House Building) there is a car that is always parked there full of all kinds of fruit and this is making life very difficult for us.
A new trend has now set in. The pavement that leads towards Buy and Save from the bus rank is also becoming a frustration. Anyone now can just wake up and decide to come to this embarrassing township to sell anything.
Sometimes I just wonder why Mbabane is referred to as the capital city because its current state befits a shanty town. This uncontrolled illegal selling on the streets contributes immensely to the increase of crime here.
On several occasions I have seen drunkards urinating next to the rubbish bins at the bus rank in broad daylight. Why? The answer is simple - Mbabane is a place where anyone can do anything he/she likes without even being bothered by laws governing a city.
The crime wave will continue unless the the management sets up and implements a no-nonsense control strategy. Imagine what Mbabane will look like in two years time!
Some Asians who have shops right across the FNB Bank which is less than 10 metres from the Council Offices display even wheelbarrows right on the pavements! What is wrong? Mankayane is far cleaner than Mbabane.
Things have gone out of hand, I just wonder who will save us. The residents of Mbabane will continue to suffer because of an inconsiderate management that has no desire to help make the city clean and crime free.
On a parting note, for how long will the old bus rank remain in its current state?
What is the Ministry of Housing and Urban Development doing? The crime wave is slowly shifting from from the The Hub to the capital and believe me - walking in Mbabane in a year’s time will be as scary as it is at The Hub.
How on earth can the city allow people to roast maize right in the city?
Ngisho lapha ngaka Engen phela, which is fire hazard itself. Can we expect anything better in the future from such lazy city council management? The honest response is - only the worst is yet to come.
I am fed up with this township and I am contemplating to go and khonta at Nkhaba or Sigangeni or Siphocosini and leave a quiet life there than to be victim of poor management of this deplorable township!
Fed Up
Mbabane
