BLOOD ON OUR ROADS

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

A couple of weeks ago death statistics were published in this publication and the numbers were not only alarming but frightening since I use the road every day.

These are people who left their place of abode with the hope of coming back to be with their loved ones.
Now those people are victims of reckless driving, negligence, police chasing road offenders, and the other silent killer, which is the poor state of our roads.
I use the road every day and I see these every day and I have witnessed blood spilling on the roads because of the poor state they are in. I use the MR 3 every day and have noticed that road has  no yellow line, which means there is no road.
And therefore our roads will continue to be a place where innocent blood is spilt daily.

With that said, I agree if the big fines that are proposed are to eradicate the accidents but the question is on which roads will the effect those proposed fines because the roads are a laughing stock?
Some like I said have no yellow lines, even if they repainted those lines it would be like doing it on gravel.
They may send the roads department to patch the roads but at most those people have no idea of what they are supposed to do.
I would like to urge road users, especially drivers, to please use roads in an orderly manner, be patient and have respect for one another.

Public transport operators, I know that your mandate is to rake in money for whoever you work for, but please can you do that knowing you are transporting people who have many dependants. Can you also please drive with caution while adhering to road signs. To the police please stop hiding in waiting rooms and behind trees and most importantly stop chasing road offenders. Lastly can whoever is responsible of making sure that roads are in a good condition do their job and maintain them.
