LET’S PROTECT OUR CHILDREN

Sir,

Allow me in your widely read newspaper to air my views regarding an ongoing trend to hurt children in the country which I feel is not good.

I read with dismay last week a story which was published in your newspaper of how a child and mom were scalded with boiling water by another woman. While I understand that there are those instances where people disagree on certain things or have what is called a beef, I do get disappointed when young souls are then made to suffer.

The pictures I saw in the story were appalling to say the least.
I asked myself the biggest question as to why an innocent child ended up being involved in the squabbles that her mother had with someone. I mean really, why hurt a child? Does the child even know what is happening?
As a country, we preach everyday that our children are the ones that we expect to take the country forward and be the leaders tomorrow. So when we hurt them in this manner who will lead our country in the coming years?

This a very big concern for me because for a long time I have always thought that Swazis were people who were known to have kind hearts. When they start fighting their battles and hurt children I get so disappointed.

I think it is high time that our Parliament passes a law that will be strict on people who hurt children otherwise this country has no future.
We read almost every week in this same newspaper how young girls become victims of rape and some of the cases include offenders who are relatives or even fathers to these girls.

Why must a father start having feelings for his own daughter?
Such is demonic and those fathers found guilty of such acts should rot in jail because they do not deserve to live in this society.
