PROBE TEAMS BECOMING FASHIONABLE

Sir,

Here we go with another ‘probe team’, a dagga one this time, tasked with effectively probing how other countries, a ‘country miles’ away in terms of distance, culture and infrastructure, control a formerly illegal industry.

What exactly did the ‘Asian influx probe team’ bring to the table after going around the country for several months pointing their fingers at the odd affluent looking Asian - anything at all that we did not know already?
Now we have another five-strong team of guys flying around the world to do what?

We have social media which allows us to communicate, view, discuss much of the necessary in what is called a ‘video conference’ but our Parliament, in five seconds flat, has elected five guys to a team tasked with flying to Israel on a fact finding mission, what a waste of money the country does not have.

Whack a bunch of MPs into a plane and tell them to go check out the operations in places where the legalisation process has occurred. Which of them has any expertise or at least an interest within areas which will be crucial to making the legalisation process clear, practical and feasible? There are people who would be far more important and useful to a tasked probe team than the MPs selected by their peers but selection is kept ‘in-house’, why? Why not investigate suitable people for a probe team instead of nominating five MPs?

This is classic willy-nilly spending with hardly a proper plan in place to investigate and study how legalisation could be plausible here.
There are far more important things to investigate here at home with regard to making the industry legal than flying this mob to Israel. Surely that is totally obvious but yet again, parliamentarians come up with a thoughtless, money grows on trees ‘dagga probe team’ heading off on a ‘fact finding mission’.

Why don’t they put a probe team together for the ‘portable showers’ they were discussing previously, send them on another fact finding mission too.
