POLICE COMMISSIONER HAS FAILED, 70 CALLS, NO HELP

Sir,

My heart was torn into pieces when I read the first article published in the Swazi News on how a family made over 70 calls to the police to assist in taking away a man who proved to be a threat in the whole community of Fonteyn.

I was disturbed when it later transpired that the man had actually assaulted a community member with a rock on the head, who later died while admitted to the ICU.
This was an unnecessary death. How does the National Commissioner of Police Isaac Magagula sleep at night knowing well that his subordinates did a disservice to the Fonteyn community?

Is the commissioner happy that he still heads a portfolio that has actually done nothing but brought everlasting pain to the family of the killed man? Does he actually care? His actions say he doesn’t give a rats leg on the issue. Why? Because nothing has been done to take the reponsbile people to task. I know that you are in the public service sector so ‘there is no hurry’, but people in the private sector know when to act when something goes wrong. In fact, certain people would have been suspended already with their disciplinary hearings already underway.

I just fail to understand how a whole police service that recruits every year found it so ‘scary and daunting’ to load their men into a Quantum and get hold of a man (one man, for the matter) who has caused so much grieve and pain.

How come the cops are brave enough to load 70 of their own in a quantum to look for a seven headed snake that they are not even sure exists? How come they are able to chase after drink-driving suspects and apprehend them? How come they are able to rob people of dagga? The pain you have caused this family is beyond grief. And it’s all your fault commissioner, together with your useless police officers.

Nothing you do now will change anything but I can assure you, you will never have inner peace. You have failed the nation and your time is up! Maybe we need someone who will do proper follow-ups on people’s cries for help. Trust me, I have my own story to tell about the poor service that the police give to the nation but thought it best that I start with this burning national issue.

Don’t say we are being harsh when we say police are cowards and all they want is to get a salary at the end of the month. Over 70 calls and no help, really? What kind of sick society are you breeding? Don’t let this happen on your shift, it is such an embarrassment. Resign Mr Commissioner, you have failed dismally!

Fonteyn resident
