CONTINGENCY DROUGHT PLANS

Font size: Decrease font Enlarge font

Sir,

A journalist from another publication was asking about the SWSC ongoing contingency plans for the next & further drought situations.

The MD for this corporation was in the media a while back claiming; “It was not his job to build a dam but only to provide designs and plans for it, the construction side of the project was the responsibility of government.”
Presumably then he has those designs?

They are ready for government to go ahead with what must be a long-term project which needs to be starting soon, again presumably?
Yes, we have had some decent rain but surely in the future we are going to find our ‘backs to the wall’ with regard a shortage of clean water.
Contingency plans should be in place when projects are underway, but I am pretty sure nothing is underway and all SWSC has done is throw money at required ‘quick fix’ issues which it has had, because up until now there has been ‘nothing/zero’ done with the kingdom’s ‘long-term’ water storage in mind.

Sorry, quite a bit of praying for rain but even with the very best intentions, this unfortunately has no guaranteed success.
The NDMA (National Disaster Management Agency) was supposedly in charge of an operation at Hawane months ago yet much later there were advertisements for management positions within the NDMA, so who was running NDMA up to this point and what were they actually doing, if anything constructive at all?

A letter titled ‘Swazis roasting in poverty’ was slightly incorrect with focus on politicians’ failings, whereas he should also point at the ‘corporate sector’ where required diligence is also seriously lacking other than in areas like patting each other’s backs, self rewarding and side stepping responsibilities is rife.

Complete transparency is required from these organisations but as long as there is no outside control to monitor them, as long as middle management is running the show while the fat cats relax and get fatter, there will never be the efficiency required to take this nation to First World status.
