POETRY OF KARL MARX

Sir,

History seems to have forgotten about Karl Marx, the man whose communist ideology gave rise to Marxist empire which, at its height, is said to have ruled over one-third of humanity.

As a young man, Marx is said to have been very religious and deeply humane. He was obsessed with finding ways to fight poverty and inequality which, according to him, were caused by capitalism. However, one of the lesser known aspects about Marx was his love for poetry. As a young Christian student, Marx is said to have written: ‘‘Through the love of Christ, we turn our hearts to our brethren who are inwardly bound to us and for whom He (Christ) gave Himself in sacrifice.’’

However, something changed in the young Marx upon completing his studies, and he became deeply anti-religious. In another poem he writes: I wish to avenge myself against the one who rules above.

He also wrote: ‘‘Then I will be able to walk triumphantly, like a god, through the rains of their kingdom. Every word of mine is power and action. My breast is equal to that of the creator.’’ In the pale maiden he wrote: ‘‘Thus Heaven I’ve forfeited, I know it well. My soul, once true to God, is chosen for Hell.’’

Many people probably think that Marx was an atheist. But by reading some of his writings, it becomes clear that he did believe in the Almighty God but chose to follow satan instead.

It is a known fact that Marx’s communist ideology went on to create one of the most brutal and oppressive systems of government the world has ever seen, which resulted in misery and death for millions of people around the world, from Cambodia to Angola to North Korea.

In Cuba, the legacy of the late dictator Fidel Castro, who was viewed by some as a brutal murderer who ruled Cuba with an iron fist for half a century and viewed by others as a great leader who stood up to capitalist America and helped end imperialism in Africa, is there for all to see. While Cuba may boast about having one of the best healthcare systems in the world and high literacy levels, the truth is the majority of Cubans are extremely poor and have very little rights.

In the past Cubans who wished to leave the country to escape poverty and hunger did so at the risk of losing their lives because leaving Cuba was strictly forbidden, and thousands did lose their lives. In fact, most countries which had Marxist ideologies imposed on them have similar stories of poverty and human rights abuses to share, including most of the countries which Fidel Castro’s regime apparently helped to liberate.
