SWAZIBANK CUP FINAL, EXPECT FIREWORKS

Sir,

The stage has been set. Mbabane Swallows and Green Mamba will square up in the final of the 13th edition of the SwaziBank Cup on Sunday at Somhlolo National Stadium.

As predicted by many commentators, the high-flying capital city giants beat Red Lions while the correctional services side went past Tambuti FC in the semi-finals, to  set a repeat of the 2014 Castle Premier Challenge final where the latter beat the former 2-1 to clinch the trophy.

Of course, it was one-way traffic for the ruthless Swallows who went berserk to massacre the listless Red Lions 6-0 just after Green Mamba had bruised aside the Lubombo based Tambuti 3-1, in what could be best described as one-sided encounters. For many spectators the semi-final games were just a formality for the Swallows and Green Mamba, if the results are anything to go by.

The focus is now on the final where Swallows seek to clinch their fourth trophy this season and their third SwaziBank Cup in history, while the Herbert Maruwa coached Green Mamba will be hoping to redeem their gloom season by lifting their first trophy in this campaign and also their  the third SwaziBank Cup in history.

History has it that Swallows last won the SwaziBank Cup trophy in 2013 where they beat the then formidable Malanti Chiefs 5-3, seven years after beating the self-same Malanti 1-0 in the 2006 final-albeit after extra time in both encounters.
In the opposite end, Green Mamba clinched the first edition of the SwaziBank Cup in 2004, where they ran amok to crush the then Denver Sundowns 5-1 before repeating the same feat in the 2012 edition where they whacked Mbabane Highlanders 3-1 to claim their second SwaziBank Cup triumph.

History aside, this year’s final has all the ingredients of a thriller. For Swallows, they had an up-hill battle en-route to the final.
They had to go past formidable sides in Royal Leopard and Mbabane Highlanders, something which suggests that they have what it takes to win this one.
Love or loathe them, this Swallows team is unstoppable. They are an ambitious side which always thrives for excellence.

They have the talent and experience in their squad. And all these points to an excellent administration and leadership by the Victor Gamedze-led Board of Directors.
They are competing for every available silverware, and this has created the culture of winning among the players.

Even in this SwaziBank Cup, all eyes will be on this Swallows team. Can they continue with their Cup winning spree?
Surely fireworks are expected as the battle for the E1million winners’ prize take centre stage. Sidlala Kanje!
