MEN STOP KILLING YOUR LOVED ONES

Sir,

I have to start by admitting that I have been troubled by the newspaper headlines I see every week.
If it is not that somebody has committed suicide, then the news are about a man killing his lover.

Well I am not the kind of person who is interested much in other people’s affairs but what haunts my mind is safety in our motherland, as we fail to live in harmony yet we are all equal inhabitants of the land.

It becomes very disturbing when such takes place between people who claim to have been in love in the first place. It does not call for one to be a social worker or psychologist to note that a string of murder caused by domestic violence cases have been dominating our local news bulletin.

In one instance, a man allegedly killed his wife and mother-in-law, later committing suicide, a ‘Ben 10’ killed his lover, then set alight her rented flat. These are just a fraction of the incidents. It is very disappointing that such happens after SWAGAA and other NGOs spent millions of funds in engaging and discouraging communities on gender-based violence.

Does this mean that Swazis do not have knowledge of human rights?
In fact, this expose that Swazis lack forums that advocate, support and protect human rights, or probably the government is in a deep slumber regarding the enforcing of constitutional rights. The right to life is the most fundamental of all human rights.

Maybe these ‘brutal killer-lovers’ emanate from the belief that our government violates the rights of freedom of expression and assembly.  Some people think that having the power and the capability to end one’s life may mean having the authority to kill.
