GOVT MUST REMEMBER THE FOUNDATION OF TINKHUNDLA

Sir,

If you are talking of Swaziland, you are talking of a country that is being governed by Tinkhundla.  Before we can celebrate or rather count achievements and disadvantages of the system, one should sit down and think about where the system of governance comes from? What is the foundation of the system of governance?

Honestly I am so disappointed by our government. Our government cannot protect the citizens. To me it seems the chiefdoms are the foundation of the system of governance. Before we can say we have a peaceful country, we must make sure its foundation is strong.

I repeat governments must start protecting its citizens. As I am writing this, people are experiencing evictions in the rural areas from this very foundation of the system of governance. Remember, there is only one way or one route for one to build a homestead luckily enough you have to go via the foundation of the system of governance but people are still being evicted, how?

It remains a question to me whether government is now trying to amend the constitution? Swazis are merely complying with the structures of the system to keep the peace in the country.

They are being respectful to the authorities  in their chiefdoms but evictions are looming, this is not good. Are we saying Swazis must go out there and study this system?

Are they trying to create space for those who are against the system to ask what the benefits of being governed by Tinkhundla system are? Are we taking away the necessary weapons for Swazis to defend themselves from the opposition? Government must look into this without fail. This is a serious issue.

Tinkhundla System must be reviewed. Its so hocking that eviction on Swazi nation Land is still happening. I believe in this system and i believe that with the rightful minded young people this system can be effective. Inline with taking the government to the people. Its just my cry to the Royalty on throne that may he look re-instating the chiefs and they must be taught the tinkhundla system.

Tinkhundla system, a wrong experiment that terrible went wrong in the face of Swazis! Every other thing has been tried but no foreseeable improvement! Instead, it has created a lot of ills; re-cycle people, pay-role but no work, laziness with no productive, gossiping, lies and deceit all the way!

As we ask ourselves the foundation questions we should also ask a further question: who is the architect of tinkhundla; and for whom? behind these questions we shall find very interesting facts about it. It is an irony to argue that tinkhundla is a home-grown system, when in actual fact it is an externally-influenced exercise that was born in a context of apartheid consolidating its power in the smaller states in Southern Africa, Swaziland included, back in the early 1970s. Piet van Wyk De Vries, a Pretoria-based Afrikaner advocate advised King Sobhuza II to model this 'home-grown' project in the style of the homelands in South Africa, where people are grouped into various constituencies from where they are not expected to move out of. At the centre, undoubtedly, of all this political machinery is the very institution of the monarchy that is behind the making of this political system of oppression. There you have it!This system was not made for Swazis but for a select royal few, and it is by no accident that the King is all and everything to this system. its time shall come to an end!!

The system itself is good to be honest. The only setback is the people who are entrusted with its institutionalization who do not have a vision for the Swazi nation.
