MUSA HLOPHE’S BLUNDER

Sir,

Please Mr Editor, allow me to respond to a letter by Dr AT Dlamini and Musa Hlophe’s comments, (Times Sunday, November 23, 2014 and December 14, 2014, respectively) both marked ‘MGABHI GOT IT WRONG’ It must be noted that both writers are still members of the NNLC.

Unfortunately, both writers’ comments are full of allegations, speculations and quite far from the realities. Sir, I would wish to start with Mr Musa Hlophe’s comments, which says, “I believe that people like Mgabhi, a former speaker in the House of Assembly, should lead by example.”
May I know from Mr Hlophe, does it mean historical facts should be betrayed by someone who is a former speaker of the Honourable House of Assembly? Mzala, we must debate over facts, on what really transpired.

Hlophe further says: “Dr Zwane broke away from the Swaziland Progressive Party because of serious disagreements over the issue of misinterpretation, if not misunderstanding of the Pan-Africanist approach.”

Let me help Umzala and company on this issue, he got it wrong. JJ Nquku was the President of the Swaziland Progressive Party, Doctor Zwane was the Secretary General. The party had no post box of its own and used JJ Nquku’s personal post box. The misunderstanding began when JJ Nquku as president, could receive and respond to all correspondence even if addressed to the secretary general.

As a result the Soviet Union offered/awarded through the Progressive Party, youth scholarship in which JJ Nquku unilaterally made a selection of students and the party executive committee bitterly complained about it. JJ Nquku merely pointed out that everything was his prerogative as president to do what he feels was right.

Mgabhi Dlamini
MANKAYANE
