SNAT CONSTITUTION HAS FLAWS

Sir,

It is a pleasure to be allowed space in this widely read newspaper. I write to respond to Mr Phinda Ndlovu’s smart observation about secret agendas in SNAT.
May I also (like he did) unequivocally declare that I am a qualified teacher who is also a bona fide member of SNAT.

I was trained to allow all kinds of opinions from learners, no matter how absurd they are. It is my duty to appreciate superb ideas making sure that misconceptions are corrected.
Mr Ndlovu, you are spot on to identify secret agendas in SNAT. There are, and there are numerous, I may add. They are not limited to those you observed. They include making SNAT a ‘cash cow’.

It is also a fact that all organisations have informal groups within them, which play a pivotal role in developing and strengthening the organisation.  Of course, if the organisation is headed by egocentric individuals, then it is weakened to nothing.

SNAT is a very big organisation constituted of members from different political, social, economic, and religious background, where no one should claim supremacy.
There ‘is’ or rather are informal groups which are in SNAT to carry their political formation mandate using us (SNAT members), for crying out loud. They are taking full advantage that they are in key positions in the organisation.
It is correct to say SNAT has a constitution and there are structures to be followed.

The SNAT constitution has so many flaws.
However, in the matter at hand, after the ‘engineered’ conference (driven to suit the looters) failed the membership, the so called clique sought redress from the courts of the land. I do not want to embarrass both the National Executive Committee of SNAT and its General Council for having no clue on the meaning of extraordinary general meeting and its purpose.

This is well expressed in the Industrial Relations, IR, Act 29 (1) g. This section exposes the right that is denied to bona fide members of SNAT by the National Executive Committee.
I never liked former President Sibongile Mazibuko until I realised how intelligent she was. The woman has a heart.

She is a ‘man’. She put the interest of teachers before hers. She saved a number of teachers during ‘Waya Waya’ who had a pendulum of dismissal oscillating over their necks. Wrong is wrong to her no matter how many people like it.
She never joined the so called ‘collective responsibility’ notion in looting.
