WE MUST ALL SACRIFICE TO SAVE THE ECONOMY
Editor,
According to a recent statement by the Honourable Minister of Finance Martin Dlamini, our economy was not doing well and was going down the slope. My question to those knowledgeable on such matters is what was the cause for this to happen?
Unfortunately and for some reason the minister did not want to go into details and give reasons why the country is doing so badly economically but for the sake of the public, I will point out possible reasons as to why could be the case and why we are not doing so good as a country.
Point number one, the number of civil servants is high and this is a big burden to taxpayers. For example, we part with over E350 million monthly paying the approximately over 35 000 civil servants!
Secondly, more investors are leaving the country compared to those who are coming in and this could be due to the fact that investor confidences is low in the country and nobody wants to come invest their money here and this could be attributed to the political tensions.
And sadly we always look to the SACU, which may yet we are depended on what we get from there to fulfil our budgetary obligations. The long term solution to this challenge is that civil servants must agree to take early retirement or else agree that their wages be reduced.
But its important focus should not only be on the civil servants alone. Politicians must also be open to sacrifices since they are the most highly paid in the region and their salaries must also be reduced. They drive top of the range cars, which they recently at a high cost on the taxpayer. If we are boost government coffers, these cars should go under the hammer and the money recouped to cover government expenses. All must suffer and not just the small people.
