Producing twice

Farmers have been advised to cultivate their land twice this year to reap a higher yield. Should farmers achieve this the country could be well on her way to achieving food security for her people.

The government and stakeholders have ensured that markets are readily available and have further ensured that funding for farming is also available.
All farmers need to do now is come to the party and start producing in abundance. However, farming bodies like NAMBoard will need to play their role in making sure that the markets for the farmers’ produce offer a fair and competitive price when purchasing their wares.

Farmers should also explore other food crops such as sweet potatoes and legumes among other more viable cash crops instead of planting the conventional maize crop even when it is no longer profitable. As Your Friend stated, farmers should move away from subsistence farming and view farming as a business with returns. This will enable them to hire more people, which would in turn contribute to reducing the high unemployment rate.

Lover, makhwapheni hacked

A 20-year-old woman hacked her boyfriend after she found him in a compromising position with another woman, whom she also hacked. This behaviour cannot be condoned and speaks to the breakdown of societal structures and morals.

Firstly the relationship between the two was not solidified in any way, they were not married, for her to feel she had a right to behave in the manner she did. She was merely his live-in lover. Traditionally, a woman is not supposed to live with a man until he has done right by her because quite ‘frankly’ why buy the cow if you can milk it for free?’

Men also should not cohabit with women unless they intend marrying them. A few months ago we had a similar situation where a man felt hard done by after finding his lover in the forest with another man. He proceeded to hack her and parade her naked in public for a distance.
This sort of behaviour is a reflection of how badly society’s morals have deteriorated. As a nation we need to take stock of where we have gone wrong and begin to rectify this wrong.

Smoking epileptic
burns to death
A sad and shocking incident left
an epileptic man dead after he suffered a seizure and got burned to death by a fire which was coincidentally started by the cigarette he was smoking.
This unfortunate incident brings to light the fact that there is still a serious lack of responsibility among our people. How does a man who is well aware of his medical condition take to walking isolated bushy paths alone....with a blazing cigarette in hand to boot?
Every day we read in the newspapers about how we should all live healthy and eat right and look after our health but do we all take the advice seriously?
Let’s take charge of our lives and act responsibly. If you have a medical condition take the necessary measures to look after yourself.
