MOVING FORWARD

THE word moving is defined as, ‘changing or capable of changing position or status’. Moving also means actuating, instigating, impelling and causing movement. It also means arousing and stimulating. My prayer is that this article will wake you up, stimulate and ignite you.

Inspite of your difficult experiences in 2016, it’s never too late to rise up, dream again and move forward. Moving forward requires developing and cultivating new winning habits. Without a change of certain bad habits, 2017 will be just the same as 2016 for most of us.
We are all creatures of habit. Psychologically, habit is an automatic pattern of behaviour that may be inherited or acquired through frequent repetition. It is a stereotyped behaviour that is practiced so long it seems innate. Habit is easy to get into, but hard to get out of. There’s a Spanish proverb which says, “Habits are first like cobwebs and then they become cables.” Habits ultimately create strongholds.

We must always remember that behaviour is formed through habits. Our habits actually have power to create our future. We can only become tomorrow what we are becoming today. Success is found in our daily habits. We must therefore learn how to maximise good habits and minimise the bad ones, because in the routine of our daily habits is the profit of where we are going in life. We must therefore endeavour to develop winning habits. Winning habits are those daily acts that we do which position us for favour and breakthrough in life. Habits can be seen in how we spend our time, how we manage our relationships, how we deal with our diet and even how we spend our money.


The original meaning of the word habit is garment or clothing, implying something we put on daily. We often choose our habits, which in turn shape our behaviour and character. Samuel Johnson once said, “The chains of habits are generally too small to be felt, until they are too strong to be broken.” Easy to get into, but hard to get out of. Nathaniel Emaus said, “Habit is either the best of servants or the worst masters.” We are all human beings, but the habits we practice separate us. Good habits are usually formed through persistence, while bad habits are easily fallen into.

The habits we choose to practice will eventually shape our character and future. If we do not like the direction which our life is taking, we must change our habits.
Success does not usually come in a day; it comes daily through our daily habits. Success is actually found in our daily routine or habits. We succeed by doing right things over a period of time. Habit reflects character, shapes character and affects destiny.
