A PRAYER FOR SADC

I have looked at the Southern African Development Community (SADC), in comparison to other regional blocs on the continent.

SADC remains one of the very competitive regional blocs.
What I appreciate more is that the founding objective were a very serious concrete solidarity and collective quest for freedom, justice and democracy for all member states and that the catalyst for this solidarity was to ensure that apartheid regime is totally dismantled and a democratic state that would be governed by the will of the people s realised.

One would like to unreservedly thank and  appreciate all the founding leaders of the former SADCC  (Southern African Development Co-ordination Conference)   in Presidents Kenneth Kaunda, Samora Machel, Julius Nyerere to mention a few, who refused to be satisfied with their countries’independence when there were still other countries in the region that remained in the claws of the cancerous apartheid regime.

They sacrificed their freedom for those southern African States that were not yet free, even at the expense of their own countries getting destroyed by the apartheid forces.
They offered their homes to the exiles; schools for the children of freedom fighters and training for the combatants to fight apartheid.
In the process, a lot of their citizens died whenever apartheid forces attacked their countries.

This was for a just cause and history - very good history at that - is on the side of both the living and those who passed on.
Some of those leaders put their lives on the line for the freedom of others, one example being the tragic death of Mozambican President Samora Machel who died at Mbuzini in South Africa.
It is important to remember President Mwalimu Julius Nyerere and Kenneth Kaunda for providing leadership by availing their countries, in the process opening up their countries and their peoples for the freedom of others what a noble idea put in action.
Their sacrifices brought freedom to many countries that were not free at the creation of SADCC. These were dubbed the Frontline States.

It is important for citizens of this region to know that great leaders and freedom fighters put their lives on line for the freedom and democracy being enjoyed today.
I am happy to state that I am aware of ordinary men and women in the region who were not necessarily national leaders but who played a role in assisting extensively with their homes and properties to shelter the freedom fighters and a number of Swazis provided this sacrifice, while we all got to know about Kwa Magogo House No 43 at Trelawney Park, there were many other homes and houses in Swaziland that secretly offered homage to freedom fighters. Swaziland too played a role in silence.
