IN ‘RUBBER’, WE HAVE A LEADER

“While He was still speaking, behold, a crowd came, and the one called Judas, one of the 12, was preceding them; and he approached Jesus to kiss Him. But Jesus said to him, Judas are you betraying the Son of Man with a kiss? When those who were around Him saw what was going to happen, they said, Lord, shall we strike him with the sword?”…. (Luke 22:48).

Jesus was not betrayed by an outsider but He was betrayed by a family member (disciple). I was not there when Mbabane Highlanders got relegated but I know that a man called Bheki ‘Rubber’ Simelane was called to rescue what was a sinking ship and out of love for the very same ship he played for he adhered to the call. Not that he had money but he had love for the ‘Bull’ .

Some were happy that the team was winning, some were sceptical they thought it was the end like it happened to the Dribbling Wizards of this world but ‘Rubber’ kept the ship going. It sailed through the storms, scorching heat of the sun and finally the ship was promoted to the elite league where it belongs anyway. We all know what it’s like to manage a team in our country.

Even before the ship started sailing in the elite league trouble began. Like it happened with Jesus, a plot was orchestrated to betray a man who has been loyal to the cause, (bringing Highlanders back to topflight football) for what? Who are behind that plot? Family, people who are supposed to watch his back but no their hearts are full of hatred and selfishness.

When the team was supposed to have preseason training under ‘Rubber’s leadership, he was busy with boardroom issues that wouldn’t have taken a week to solve if things were done by the book and everyone was honest.
The team lost its first game of the season and soothsayers predicted the worst, in fact they are expecting the worst even now. On the last day of preparations for the Red Lions game our South African players eloped and ‘Rubber’ went after them. Imagine Irvin Khoza or Kaizer Motaung leaving behind everything just to attend to players who left without saying a word. I’m not sure they can do that but, ‘Rubber’ did because he cares for them and the team.

LET THE TRUTH BE TOLD

There are three things in life that cannot be hidden for long: the sun, the moon and the truth. Some people think that the truth can be hidden with a little cover up and decoration. But as time goes by, what is true is revealed, and what is fake fades away.
All truth is easier to understand but the point is to discover them. I know that some will call me names because I’m saying the truth and all truth passes through three stages. First, it is ridiculed, secondly, it is violently opposed. Thirdly, it is accepted as being self-evident.
There is a need for us as a family to tell each other the truth.
It is better to tell the truth that hurts than to tell the truth that comforts and destroys.

UNITY

Make my joy complete by being of the same mind, maintaining the same love, united in spirit, intent on one purpose. -- Philippians 4:2.
Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brothers to dwell together in unity. -- Psalms 133:1.
David and Paul wouldn’t have put it better than this. One thing I know about unity is that even the weak become strong when they are united.
Who does not know that a house divided against itself cannot stand. Where destruction is the motive, unity is dangerous. For example, if I have evil intent and I galvanise that evil intent with others, the capacity to destroy is immense yet where goodness is the motive, unity is phenomenal and actually has some good issues in them. Unity is strength. When bad men combine, the good must associate; or else they will fall, one by one.

TEAMWORK

We are a team and we should resemble teamwork. Teamwork is the ability to work together towards a common vision. The ability to direct individual accomplishments towards organisational objectives.
It is the fuel that allows common people to attain uncommon results. When there is teamwork and collaboration, wonderful things can be achieved. In Simelane we have a leader; a leader is someone who has passion and vision and not afraid of any problem instead, he should know how to defeat it.
Most importantly he must work with integrity.
Remember this Highlanders, you can fool all people some of the time, you can fool some people all the time but you will never fool all people all the time. May the heavens smile upon you.
