MBABANE - Local spinner DJ Lady Cream has alleged that she was detained by the police on her way to perform at the Simunye Fun Fair on Friday evening.

Nontobeko Dlamini, the 27-year-old DJ, was among the local deejays who were to perform at the Simunye Fun Fair which took place over the weekend.

Dlamini was scheduled to play at 3am, after South African DJ Euphonic.
The female spinner alleged that she was stopped at a roadblock at Matsetsa at around 9pm; she was driving a foreign-registered car and was with a friend.

“I told the police I had not taken any alcohol, I even asked them to give me a breathalyser test, but they did not have a breathalyser. So I was asked to get into their car to drive to Simunye Fun Fair, just outside the venue, to get a breathalyser,” said the DJ.

  Wait

She further said they had to wait for another hour for the police to get a breathalyser, which was supposedly in another car.
“When they finally got the breathalyser I recorded 0.00. They couldn’t believe it and so they asked me to do it three times. They only released me after midnight,’’ said DJ Lady Cream.  Dlamini identified the policemen involved as Dlamini and Simelane, from the Siteki Police Station.

When asked if the ordeal affected her set, the DJ said as a professional she pulled it off even though she was upset.
“It did affect my set a bit, because I had to go and freshen up and look for a car tag as I was already late. I only managed to get to the Club 15 minutes before my set. My mood was just ruined,” said Dlamini.

Fans

She further said she had to give her fans the best she could because, as a professional, one has to give it their best no matter what.
The DJ went on to say she felt the police have killed the tourism industry in the country.

“Swazi police have killed the industry, it’s like arresting people for drink-driving is now in fashion. Sometimes they arrest you just because you are driving a GP registered car,’’ said the local spinner.

Deputy Police PRO Assistant Superintendent Khulani Mamba said they do not have a record of the DJ taking a breathalyser test.
Mamba said the DJ must lay a formal complaint for them to follow up the allegations.

“I can’t confirm the incident if we do not have it on record, but she can lay a formal complaint and we will follow it up,” said Mamba.
