Bongekile Ginindza

Swaziland College of Technology (SCOT) last week hosted their Fresher’s Ball at the College’s Hall. Bongekile Ginindza was crowned Miss Fresher’s SCOT and Mlungisi Thando Msibi was crowned Mr Fresher’s SCOT.
Gcwala met up with the duo, and they tell us more about themselves.

Bongekile Ginindza
She was born 21 years ago, in Mbabane. The beauty queen completed her high school in 2010 at St Marks. She is from Luyengo but she grew up in Mbabane at Sandla. She is currently doing her Diploma in Quantity Surveying.
I asked her why she chose such a field. She said, “My mom inspired me to choose this field. After she went into the details of what it involves I decided to learn more about it.” She went on to say; now that she is pursuing this course she is really enjoying it.
It was her friends who encouraged her to join Miss Fresher’s. “I am a shy person and humble person. This was my first and last pageant.” She also mentioned that she was never one who loves the spotlight very much, as she only joined for fun. “I was just overcoming my stage fears; my anticipation was only to have fun.”
When quizzed if she would join Miss Swaziland in the future, she emphasised that this was definitely her last pageant.
She says when the top five was announced, she was excited and overwhelmed. “After the First Princess who was my biggest competitor, was crowned, the crowd started screaming my name.  And I was indeed crowned the queen. My family were overjoyed when I was crowned, especially my mum.”
I asked her what does being Miss Fresher’s means to her, and she said,”Being Miss Fresher’s means a lot to me, as it means I am someone’s role model, and I have to be an inspiration to other young women.”
“In 10 years time from now I see myself as a director of a successful company.” In her spare time the beauty queen loves to listen to music and read, as she is not so much into sports.

SCOT Mlungisi Thando Msibi

Born 23 years ago, the beauty king was born and raised in Dvudvusini in Mankayane. He completed his high school in 2009 at Ekukhanyeni Combined School in Johannesburg. He is currently pursuing a diploma in Building Studies.
He fell in love with construction a long time ago and he always wanted to be involved in the industry. “My father owns a construction company, and he has always convinced me to work with him during school holidays.’’ He further said he loves seeing developments in his community, and just like his dad he would love to own a construction company one day.
I asked him why he joined the pageant and he said, “I never intended to join. In fact I was not even in the country earlier that day; I had gone to South Africa. After stopping by Menlyn Mall in Pretoria I saw a suit I liked, only then did I make up mind about joining.”
I asked him if he thought he would win, he said, “No I didn’t think I would win, even though most of the other contestants felt I had the potential of winning.”
He went on to say he thinks he won because he is a confident person. “To me the title means if you are confident and believe in yourself, so will everyone else.” He was the fifth one to climb the stage, and getting all the compliments from the crowd made him gain more confidence that he was going to win.
“My friends are happy I won, my family had mixed feelings about it, as they thought it might interfere with my studies.”
In my spare time I watch movies and listen to music.
