MBABANE – Judges of the Miss Swaziland 2013/14 beauty pageant feel insulted by the allegations that their decision of the Top Five finalists was influenced by the director of the pageant.

This comes after the Entertainment Desk received anonymous calls on Sunday morning alleging that the director gave the judges a piece of paper with a list of names for the Top Five finalists. One caller said he was sitting close to the judges and had seen the said list.

The panel of judges included; Former Miss Swaziland Director Gladys Smith, former Mr SD Businessman Alex Fakudze, Former Miss Swaziland Thembelihle Zwane, Miss Mbombela Ziningi Maphalala, Prince Cedza and Princess Simile.

Allegations

Popular social networks Facebook and Twitter were also abuzz with allegations against Matse. When called for comment, the judges said they felt insulted as the allegations implied that they were stooges. This is what they had to say:

Former Miss Swazi-land Director Gla-dys Smith: “People should give credit where it is due. They must compliment her on a job well done and stop making these silly allegations. I did not even see where she was seated. There is nothing like that.”

Businessman Alex Fakudze: “Those are incorrect allegations, they are unfounded. That is what it is. The public should know that there is pre-judging before the judging on the night.
“There is a score card we use to evaluate the contestants on their different attributes. They score some points on the pre-judging.”
Former Miss Swaziland Thembelihle Zwane: “Are these people implying that we were stooges? I find this to be very insulting to us as judges.

Insult

“The judges’ decision is final and not the director’s decision.
“As judges we took a unilateral decision after deliberation on the score among ourselves. This is an insult.”
Princess Simile: “This is insulting to us as judges.”

Miss Mbombela Ziningi Maphalala: “That would be an insult to our intelligence. We made the choices ourselves as judges. How would that be even possible? Why spoil a good thing with unfounded statements like this one. I am disappointed on these allegations.”

The director of the pageant, Thandeka Matse said it was really disappointing that people could make up such allegations and rubbished them as false rumours.
“It is false rumours and I do not entertain false rumours. It is so disappointing that here we are trying to build the nation and they are destroying it (Yati kuyamangalisa kutsi sizama kwakha live bona bayalibulala,”she said.
