Nokubonga Mdluli

This 17-year-old is currently doing her Form 5 at Phumelele High School. She resides in Ngwane Park in Manzini with her parents who both support her dream of being the next Miss Teen Swaziland 2013/14. “They are both very happy that I was confident enough to join the national pageant and I am so happy to have their full support in this as it is a very big deal to me, and I know it can open a lot of future doors as well”. She says she entered the pageant because she loves modelling and this was a great platform to launch her into the spotlight for modelling, as ever since she could walk she loved dressing up in her mum’s clothes, and parading in her heels for fun.

This teen has a good head on her shoulders as she says her most important goal is to pass her O’Level and further her studies for nothing is as important as education. She knows that education should be the foundation for everything else that God blesses one with. If she were to win the Miss Teen title, Nokubonga would love to help the needy and orphaned children in any way she can. Asked what she feels affects her peers the most she said she wishes the girl child could learn to be independent and grow up to be independent young women, as right now a lot of teenage pregnancies are due to teens rushing into adulthood for fast cash and material things from older men. Yet if they could be patient, work hard at school, they could have whatever life they want on their own terms.
Hobbies: Singing and dancing.

Nokwanda Hlandze

She is 17 years old and is currently doing her Form 4 at Swazi National High School. She was born and bred at Mahlabatsini, an area in Matsapha. The teen was raised single-handedly by her father whom she says she loves and appreciates daily. Even though she loves modelling she says she never thought about it until she was 14. “Growing up as a child I always wanted to be a doctor, the idea of venturing into modelling never crossed my mind,” says the bubbly teen. Nokwanda is very outspoken and was the loudest of the girls at the shoot, she speaks her mind and makes everyone feel at ease. She says her love for pageants came after she fell in love with modelling by watching a lot of fashion shows on TV.

The compliments from her mates about her lean and tall frame being perfect for modelling also encouraged her, she then started modelling part-time for fun at school events and loved it. She describes herself as energetic, optimistic, fun-loving and a dedicated person. “I love living life to the fullest and I always strive daily to make a difference in someone’s life no matter how small it may be, as long as it is for the better”.

This young girl says she joined Miss Teen Swaziland to open people’s minds to realising that there is so much work to be done within our country and it starts with the youth. She is determined to do charity work by helping the needy and the people living with disabilities in our country. “I believe the youth these days is involved in so all bad behaviour due to poverty so I would also like to assist there as well,” she says.
Hobbies: Listening to music reading but cooking is her best time out hobby.

Role Model: My dad, he has encouraged me to use every opportunity that comes my way. He has taught me the values and principles of life, how to cope when times are tough and the importance of prayer in one’s life.
Words of advice for the youth: I believe you do not need a title to make a difference, first develop your inner beauty and the outer beauty will follow. You can impact your peers with your way of life so live a positive life and be exemplary within your community. No matter where you come from or what little you have as long as you have a dream and goals you will succeed through hard work.
