He was nominated for Member of Parliament under the Mbabane East Inkhundla. Mfanasibili ‘Bibi’ Mazibuko believes in women empowerment and skills development among the youth.

He also believes in gender equality and certainly wants to improve the laws in the country, to make Swaziland the best.
At 35 years of age, the transport coordinator employed by NERCHA is determined to bring change to his community, should he make it into Parliament.

Gcwala speaks to the aspiring MP.

Gcwala- How do you feel about being nominated?

I feel honoured that my community has faith in me. I was not expecting it really. It is a great honour that my community recognises me in a very good way.

Gcwala- Should you win a seat in Parliament, what is it that you would do to improve the welfare of your community?

Most of our laws and statutes are way too old. They need to be reviewed and new ones enacted to suit the era that we live in. Some of them date back to the 1960s and these are not conducive for the times that we live in. I would definitely make sure that such is addressed. The issue of orphans who have to pay rates also does not go down well with me. Also, it is important that women are empowered so that they are able to earn a living. The youth must be taught a number of skills that can assist keep them away from the streets.

Gcwala- What is your take on the elections as a whole?

The way we choose is fine, the problem is with the EBC laws. I think they need to be revisited. They should be tightened. It does not make any sense to me that a tenant who has been in that area is eligible to stand for the elections. What if that person again moves to a new apartment in a different area. That just makes no sense to me. Most of the rules and regulations must be looked into.

Gcwala- What do you think are the challenges the youth is faced with?

Drugs, alcohol. I think laws need to be tightened so that children under the age of 21 years are not sold any alcohol. The Liquor Licence Board needs to enact strict laws against this. The abuse of alcohol is killing our children.  Youth groups can also assist the youth in addressing the problems they come across. It is also important that parents talk to their children about the challenges they go through.

Gcwala- What are your hobbies?

I love soccer. I am currently Umbelebele PRO and have had the love for the game since I was a young boy. I also enjoy music, I listen to RnB mostly. However, depending on my mood at that time, I mix the genres.

Gcwala - Who is your best artist?

R. Kelly and Rihanna. They produce great music I can relate to. I would have loved to attend the R. Kelly concert that was held in South Africa recently. Had it not been for the elections I would certainly have. For Rihanna, I would pay whatever amount. She has the best voice ever and her song ‘Diamonds’ is my favourite.

Gcwala- What type of person would you say you are?

I am sociable, jolly, always happy. I am not a moody person because I also hate people who are moody.

Gcwala- What is your pet hate?

My pet hate is being taken for a fool. I hate it when people take advantage of me. Though I do not react, I try to maintain my cool.

Gcwala- What is your favourite cologne?
It would have to be Vanitas by Versace. It is quite pricy, so I only wear it on special occasions. It smells good and has a long lasting fragrance.

Gcwala- Your best designer label?

I wear anything that looks good on me. I cannot say what my favourite designer label is. I mix your Nike, Lacoste, Puma, Versace since I love sportswear.

Gcwala- What do you do when you are angry?

I play music, it always has a soothing effect on me. It cools my temper down no matter how angry I might be. Music is my pacifier. I also go shopping. Yes, I love shopping if you thought it was only for ladies, you are wrong. Retail therapy works for me. Shopping is my hobby.

Gcwala- What car do you dream of owning?

The Ford Ranger twin cab in black with white leather interior is my favourite. I wouldn’t mind owning one. It is a beautiful car indeed.

Gcwala- What makes you happy?

Spending time with my family and friends makes me happy. I am happiest when I am indoors watching a game of soccer on television or just having some fun with my friends.
