MBABANE – His Majesty’s Correctional Services Commissioner, Mzuthini Ntshangase has warned all choirs that would the first prize is their goal .

Ntshangase has made it clear that the Correctional Service Choir will make sure, by all means that they become champions.
The competition will be held at Esibayeni Lodge and the finals of the competition will be held in December in Durban.

Ntshangase said he was pleased with the performance showed by the choir during the recent Standard Bank Competition held in South Africa.
During the competition, the choir obtained the second position, taking home a sum of E10 000 together with a trophy and a participation certificate.

Correctional Services Choir scooped position one in the African piece, position three in the Western Song and received position two on the overall results under the Large Mixed Choir section.

For this feat, the choir conducted by Bernard Maseko was awarded a trophy, E10 000 plus a participation certificate.
Ntshangase thanked the choir members for representing the country well during the choral music competitions held in South Africa.
He said a successful community or nation is one which promotes its culture using available art resources and that most effective method of doing that is through music.

Music

“The country’s cultural ceremonies such as the Reed Dance, Incwala, Buganu Ceremony and many more would not be meaningful without the element of music. Music unites a nation or society, teaches self-discipline, respect, educates and yields to socio-political peace and heals a broken heart,” he said.

He said this would be possible only if artists were given the necessary support in their endeavour to contribute to social development through music.
The Commissioner said music also formed part of the key rehabilitation initiatives for offenders in the various Correctional Services Centres.
