EZULWINI – Miss Swaziland 2013/14 will be crowned at the Royal Swazi Spa Convention Centre on November 9.

This was revealed during the launch of the pageant held on Thursday night at the same venue where the finals of the pageant will be held.
The pageant will see 12 finalists competing for the crown which comes with fabulous prizes. For the next three months, the pageant’s committee, led by Director Thandeka Matse, is expected to be scouting for the young girls who would make it to the finals.

Mkhululi Maziya, the pageant’s Public Relations Officer, said preparations for the event were already at an advanced stage, inviting the public to support them
“This year’s organising committee had dedicated its time and focus into  the overall branding of the whole Miss Swaziland Beauty Pageant. The main aim is to nurture a group of young ladies into self-actualisation and utmost excellence,” he said. He said they had aligned their main aim in this year’s pageant with a motto ’Chakaza  Mbali YemaSwati’ loosely translates to mean ‘A young Swazi flower that shines for everyone to take notice’.

“We have now come to live in a generation where both men and women share equal rights, both in the corporate world and within the household. Some have even said that what a man can do, a woman can do twice as better. I say, that is a debatable theory. Past pageants have proved that the standard of Miss Swaziland pageant has not reached the level in which we could compete internationally, hence the reason we have chosen this year to be a trend-setting year for this pageant through producing educated, well-mannered, respectful, talented and beautiful Miss Swaziland finalists,” Maziya said.  He urged the public to assist them as they try to make the pageants  the  best pageant that has ever been witnessed in the country.

“Official dates and venues for all Miss Swaziland 2013/14 events will  be released to the public and media. This year will be different from previous years, it is a year that would be known in the Times to come as a year Miss Swaziland made a change in many Swazis lives.
Join us in this revolution and let it be known that you played a role in what will go down as a trend setting year for many beauty pageants to come. We look forward to all the fruitful associations that would be formed throughout the pageant,” he said.

Police partner with pageant

EZULWINI – Police have since joined hands in making sure that the Miss Swaziland Beauty Pageant becomes a success.

One of the things the police will be doing, is to provide counselling where there is a need. Police would also look at all complaints that would be brought before them.

Inspector Khulani Mamba, Police the Deputy Public Relations Officer, said they will not be investigating this time around as they will be part of the pageant.
“There are certain complaints that have been brought before us about certain abnormalities that have been spotted in some of the pageants.
There is an investigation that is currently going on.

Pageant

However, I am happy to say, in this pageant, there would be no need of investigating as they would be part of the pageant.  “I urge the organising committee to make sure that the pageant is running professionally and there should be fairness throughout the whole pageant,” he said.
Mkhululi Maziya, the pageant’s Public Relations Officer, said they recently heard of cases of human trafficking involving mostly young Swazi girls.
Trafficking
“An article on the internet addresses the state of human trafficking in Swaziland, stating that our kingdom had become a source, destination and transit country for women and children subjected to trafficking specifically commercial sexual exploitation, involuntary domestic servitude, and forced labour in agriculture.
Our young women are exploited into these crimes through a lack of knowledge and education as how they can make a meaningful life without compromising their morals and beliefs,” he said.
Maziya said they acknowledge the work that government and many other organisations were doing towards the fight to eliminate human trafficking in the Kingdom of ESwatini and Africa as a continent.
“Through partnership with the right organisations, this year’s Miss Swaziland pageant, I am  proud to say , is doing its bit towards an anti-human trafficking country,” he said.
