She is a well known gospel musician and composer. She is a former member of Ncandweni Christ Ambassadors and has worked with a number of famous South African musicians including Lundi Tyamara and Andile KaMajola. This is none other than Khanyisile Myeni, wife to Mzwakhe who is now involved in music production.

Khanysile, who is now an aspiring Member of Parliament (MP) of Manzini North after being nominated last Sunday has since taken up the challenge of running for Parliament. The artist explains how she feels to be trusted by the people of Manzini North Constituency as someone who would represent them in Parliament. Style spoke to her about her plans in politics

Style: Did you have an idea that you would be nominated?
Khanyisile: It came as a surprise to me. I never thought this would happen. When I was nominated, I did not believe it because I was not sure if I was ready for the assignment.

Style: Did you ever think of yourself being involved into politics?
Khanyisile: My concentration was on my calling for being an artist. Singing has been a calling for my family. However, as I was working close to the community, the people thought I would be the right person to represent them in Parliament. Politics is not something I had in mind.

Style: Why do you think the people of Manzini North decided to nominate you?

Khanyisile: I have always been working close with the community and I strongly believe they saw my ability and thought I was the right person. The people of Manzini North have spoken. The fact that they decided to nominate me is their first step. Since they believe in me, I do not see any reason of refusing. If they decide to send me to Parliament, I will definitely do as they wish.

Style: If you were to be given an opportunity of being an MP, how do you think this would affect you music career?
Khanyisile: This will not affect my ministry. People will still enjoy the taste of my music. After the nomination I sat down and thought how I would separate the two.  If I make it to Parliament, I will see to it that I represent the people of my constituency and  when I get the opportunity of being on stage, I will continue giving out my best.

Style: How did your husband receive the news that you have been nominated?
Khanyisile: He was present during the day of the nomination. He was shocked when my name was called. He was among the ten people who supported me during the nomination. He promised to continue supporting me through out the whole process, something that I appreciate.

Style: What do you think of the gospel music in Swaziland?
Khanyisile: If there is one thing that is destroying us as musicians is the issue of piracy. You find that most people buy music on the streets instead of buying original copies. Time has come that we make means as a country to stop people from buying music on the streets and download them illegally.

Style: What can you promise your fans, especially when it comes to your music career?
Khanyisile: I am currently working on my second album which will soon be recorded. My husband is my producer and I believe this will be one of the best projects that I have ever released. My fans should just wait for the best of me. My fans have been supportive especially on my first album and I urge them to continue doing so as my second album would be indeed the best album.
