MBABANE – The slow pace of the nomination process for this year’s National Arts and Culture Awards has got the SNCAC worried.

The nomination process was officially opened last week and is expected to come to an end in the next 16 days. SNCAC is the Swaziland National Council of Arts and Culture.

By yesterday, very few nomination forms had been collected from the SNCAC offices where they are currently found.
Stanley Dlamini, SNCAC Chief Executive Officer, said the nomination process was a challenge at the moment.

“When the nomination process was officially launched, the artists, promoters, managers and the public were informed that the nomination process will go on until August 16. Up to now, we have not received many nomination forms. This is worrying because soon the nomination process will come to an end,” he said.

He said as a committee they believed that the forms were not easily accessible to the public as they were currently kept in their offices.
“We are still looking at other strategies that can be used in order for the forms to be accessible to the public. We do have some options which we believe can be used to improve the nomination process. We are yet to meet as a committee to look at those options and see if they work or not,” he said.

Dlamini said soon after the nomination process, the voting process will begin.
“There are some categories where the public will be expected to vote. We are still finalising the logistics on how the voting process would proceed. I encourage the public to take part in the process as they would be expected to vote for their choice of artists,” he said.
