feng shui'... wind and water

Do you get to work and suddenly feel depressed and unproductive?  Do you find yourself dreading going home after work?  Well, I may have just the solution to your predicament… “FENG SHUI”!!!

This is a technique that was originated by the Chinese people over 2 000 years ago, Feng  Shui literally means wind and water. It is a way of living in harmony with the elements, this way of life can be used in the architecture and interior design of homes and business places in order to increase the flow of good energy and to keep bad energy away.

A place with good feng shui will usually look light, welcoming and pleasing to the eye. There are five elements according to feng shui principles, these are  WATER, FIRE, EARTH, WOOD AND METAL.
The purpose of today’s article is to help you understand what these elements mean and hopefully get you to use the technique when designing your homes offices.
Water is the element believed to increase prosperity, it  should be presented in the form of a pond, an aquarium, fountain or a pool.

Fire is the element that brings success, fame and recognition, it mustn’t be overdone because it will cause too much fire energy.
It is represented by and actual flame or the colour red, scatter cushions, vases and fire places are a good way to incorporate the element into a room but hey, if you’re daring, paint one side of the wall of a room red. Unless proper measures are taken, I would personally avoid using actual flames though, especially where there are kids and paperwork  involved.

Earth is the element that brings harmony and happiness, the colours are yellow, tan and beige.  It is represented by clay pottery, marble, rocks and crystals, another way to represent this would be to paint light yellow on the bedroom walls to help maintain the calm in your place of distressing.
Wood is the element that provides great force for growth and allows thing to emerge, it consists of live plants and trees. The colour green also represents wood so, by all means necessary, please visit those nurseries and purchase those live plants.

Metal, which is my favourite, is the element that brings powerful and helpful people into your life. It is represented by anything made of metal, from brass and copper statues to gold and silver jewellery. Gold and white are also metal’s representative colours.

To attract help from others, it’s advisable to put a tiny golden bell in the North-western corner of your house or business (you gotta have faith of cause!) and do opt for those white beddings, white one- seater chairs and white curtains (not for slobs please!).
In all this, please keep in mind that these elements can interact in a productive cycle or a destructive one, depending on the environment.

What I mean by this is that wood produces fire, which produces earth, which produces metal, which then produces wood, in a never ending cycle; on the other hand wood destroys earth, which destroys water, which destroys fire, which destroys metal, which destroys wood, in a never ending cycle (phew!).
So please ensure you maintain a balance when applying the technique because if things are done in a way whereby other elements are smothered by others, the results can be unpleasant ,but then again, let’s not be negative, ‘til next time, happy feng shui-ing.
