Kwaito group Vibemo back after three-year hiatus
MBABANE – Local kwaito group Vibemo is back in the music industry after taking a break in 2008.
According to group member Vice Nkambule, the group is currently working on a new album called ‘We are going far’.
The album, which will be released in May, has already received recognition through a music video which is currently being flighted on the country’s sole television station, Swazi TV. The video is for a song called ‘Move,’ which is one of the standout tracks on the album.
Recording
Another song which Nkambule said music lovers need to look out for is ‘Chorus Leader’, which a funny narrative of a Christian chorus leader who is caught dancing in a night club.
"We are done with the recording and only working on a few touch ups. We are on course to release the album in May," Nkambule said.
Vibemo last released an album in 2007. However, they took a break from the music industry because they wanted to focus on their careers outside music. The group, which was a quartet, now comes back with only two members; Bheki and Vice Nkambule.
Resurrection
"People must not be surprised that Vibemo now only has two members. Our two brothers are now deejays, so we were left to keep the group going," Nkambule said.
The group will make its first appearance in three years during Lwazi Mngometulu’s album launch which will be held at Oshoek on Saturday. The launch of the album called ‘Kwaito Journey’ has been marked as the resurrection of kwaito by both Vibemo and Lwazi. Speaking in an interview with Lwazi, he said during the launch he will be giving away a number of his CDs to those who attend the launch.
The launch which has lined up entertainment from local artists will start at 8pm. Some of the artists to perform include, among others Slim Q and DJ Flex.
