Makapan back after date with first love

IT‘S been over two years since we last saw Rantebeng Makapan grace the screens of the popular SABC1 soapie, Generations. After taking a sabbatical from the soapie, Makapan is back in full force and is set to captivate audiences with a new, dramatic storyline into next year.
Playing the role of the troubled, yet spoilt Thomas Mashaba – son of the villain, Kenneth (played by actor Seputla Sebogodi) – has come naturally for Makapan.
"I enjoy playing the role of Thomas as he is very spoilt, naughty and is a ‘daddy’s boy’ at heart," admitted Makapan.
Sleeping
Viewers last saw Makapan’s character of Thomas leave town after Kenneth found out that Thomas was sleeping with his father’s new wife, Dineo (played by actress Katlego Danke).
So why has Thomas returned to Johannesburg?
"Thomas has been living and working in Cape Town and is now a sought-after businessman with his own events company. He’s doing so well with his new-found career and is living such a lavish lifestyle, that he hasn‘t relied on Dineo and Kenneth to support him financially."
Stroke
Makapan added that he kept a low profile since hearing about his father’s sudden stroke. Has that signalled a change in Thomas?
"Thomas decided to return to Johannesburg to make peace with his father. He has come back wanting to make things right with Kenneth after he left town two years ago. He heard that Kenneth had a stroke and wanted to apologise for having an affair with Dineo," explained Makapan.
Upset
But the chances of mending their rift proved slim after Thomas learnt that Grace was his biological sister and not his cousin.
"Thomas is extremely upset about this. He can‘t believe that Kenneth lied to him all these years as well as the fact that Kenneth cheated on his mother with Rachel (his aunt).
"He now wants to hurt Kenneth and is cooking up schemes to make him pay. There’s always the possibility of sleeping with Dineo again, stealing Mashaba Media or even burning the house down. He wants to hurt Kenneth where it hurts most," said Makapan.
As for Thomas and Grace’s relationship, Makapan said the two "were not as close to each other". "They do get along with each other. It hurts him, however, to hear that this person is his sister and he doesn’t like the idea of it at all."
Tremendous
While away from Generations, Makapan has been keeping himself busy with theatre projects around South Africa and has lost "a tremendous amount of weight". "I‘ve been doing what I love most – theatre. I’ve returned to my first love and enjoying it a lot. I also started my very own production company, which has been doing great as well."
So what’s it like to be back? "It’s amazing to work on Generations again. The cast and crew welcomed me back with open arms. I’m back to spice things up."
Makapan hinted that there’s still "a lot more drama" that viewers can look forward to on Generations.
"See how the relationship between Dineo and Thomas progresses.
"He’s willing to sleep with her again to hurt his father Kenneth, but he also wants to make Dineo pay this time.
Who knows, if they get together, they may even team up against Kenneth. Thomas is very sneaky and can’t be trusted at all," he teased.
