MBABANE – Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture (ENCAC) gave monetary support to Lution who will be performing today in South Africa (SA).

This comes after the musician approached the office to seek assistance in organising the show scheduled for Bryanston at Kings Kraal. The show is dubbed ‘A night with Lution’, it will also feature a listening session of Lution’s upcoming 6th studio album titled ‘Ethereal’. The show will be hosted by Nolo Dee and TTO.

During an interview with Lution, he preferred not to reveal the amount given to him by ENCAC, but applauded them for the support by the council. “I don’t want to reveal the amount but it is enough for us to go to South Africa (SA) and represent the local industry. I really like to appreciate the support I got from ENCAC. I would also like to encourage artists not to fold their arms and wait for ENCAC whenever they want to do something. They need to ask themselves what they can do for arts and culture or to align their goals with the council so that both parties can be able to benefit from any agreement that would be made. Artists have to push themselves to know what arts and culture is all about, how to access monetary support,” Lution said.

Proposal

He further encouraged artists to align themselves with the goals of ENCAC whenever they send a proposal so it can be easy for them to be assisted. “Arts and culture is fully equipped to meet artists halfway, but they can’t meet you halfway if you don’t make the first step. The organisation is a plus or minus, the older people may not know what is needed in terms of being on the ground so we need to support them by bringing these fresh ideas so they can execute. We shouldn’t rush to complain about their shortcomings, but we have to work with them as artists so that we can access the support they have,” he said.

The artist concluded by revealing some local artists whom he has travelled with to perform during his show. “When they called me to perform at Kings Kraal, we agreed that I will get to keep ticket sales and they will keep the venue. It’s actually my show, but I travelled with BluuJay, Hailey and Cheister. I wanted to bring along Kena but due to passport issues, he couldn’t make it. I also travelled with producer and musician Chaboi,” he said.
