ESWATINI ATTENDS AFRICA TOURISM INDABA DIALOGUE

MBABANE - Stakeholders in the tourism department participated in the Africa Tourism Indaba that took place this week at the Durban International Convention Centre.

Eswatini Tourism Authority (ETA), captains of the tourism industry was all ready and set for Africa’s Travel Indaba. The event reportedly welcomed 10 000 delegates from 25 countries worldwide. The Eswatini delegation was led by the Minister of Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Jane Simelane and the (ETA) CEO Vusi Dlamini.

Session

Simelane joined a panel of African ministers for a tourism dialogue session held at the Southern Sun Elangeni and maharani Hotel in Durban, South Africa. This session was part of the ongoing annual Africa Tourism Indaba. The Tourism Indaba Dialogue, is under the theme ‘Air connectivity: A Catalyst for Tourism Development in Africa’aimed to provide a platform for African tourism ministers, policymakers, stakeholders and experts from the tourism sector and air travel industry to share ideas on the role of tourism on the African continent and to discuss expanding air access into and across African skies.

The main conversation of the night was on how the African continent can collaborate to create direct routes between African countries as well as reduce travelling costs with African countries, to increase tourism numbers in the region.

Attendance

South Africa’s Tourism Minister Patricia De Lille ‘rang the bell’, symbolising the opening of the trade floor at this year’s Africa’s Travel Indaba. Also in attendance at the opening ceremony were Deputy Minister Fish Mahlalela, Premier of KwaZulu-Natal Province, Ms. Nomusa Dube-Ncube, and CEO of South African Tourism Nombulelo Guliwe, among other tourism officials.

The event also showcased local artists’ music and dance performances. Simelane and Dlamini also had the opportunity to meet and greet Eswatini tourism industry members present at the  event.The Eswatini team looked stunning with their traditional attire on the first day of the Indaba in and they passed special thanks to the Ministry of Home Affairs for providing them with emahiya.
