MBABANE – Oukitel Eswatini was given permission to be Director of the Miss Eswatini Pageant during an unveiling that took place yesterday in Manzini Arts and Culture offices.

Oukitel will be the director of the pageant for this year, and they will have a launch in due time to announce their agenda as well as sponsors for this year’s Miss Eswatini. This was announced by Beauty Pageants Chairman Sandra Ismail during the unveiling. “Our current Miss Eswatini Tania Nunn has left the country to study abroad, which means now our new reigning queen will be First Runner-up Shanice Mamba, and Second Runner-up Fezile Mthupha is now the First Runner-up,” Ismail said.

Partnership

After the announcement by the beauty pageants chairman, Eswatini National Council of Arts and Culture (ENCAC) Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Stanley Dlamini then introduced the partnership with company Oukitel, which will now be the corporate company to run Miss Eswatini 2024. “They will have a launch in due time to announce their agenda as well as sponsors for this year’s Miss Eswatini,” Dlamini said. Oukitel is a company that manufactures smartphones, rugged smartphones, tablets, rugged tablets, smart watches, laptops and potable power stations.

Currently, the company operates in the United Kingdom, selling gadgets such as smartphones. Felicity Esihle Dlamini from Oukitel was reached for comment to ask who will be the president of the pageant; and she shared that they were yet to announce more updates. “More updates will be announced on our page as days go on,” Dlamini said. Worth mentioning is the fact that last year’s Miss Eswatini Pageant competition ended up being cancelled. One of the contestants from last year’s competition, Kayla Peters, withdrew from the pageant last year in October, before it was officially cancelled.

Cancellation

After the cancellation of the pageant, ENCAC went on to announce that they were looking for suitable candidates to submit proposals for the pageant. In a recent Parliament report tabled by the Ministry of Sports, Culture and Youth Affairs, they highlighted that an Indaba was going to be hosted to address the way forward for the pageant. As it appears, Oukitel has won the race, hence being announced as the license holder for this year’s Miss Eswatini Pageant.
