MBABANE - Eswatini’s comedy duo Gogo of Eswatini and S’lwane is set to feature in the inaugural edition of the Laugh Africa Festival.

This is an event already making its intentions to be one of South Africa’s biggest comedy events and to be hosted at Sandton Convention Centre between April 5 and 7. With a line-up including a bevy of South Africa and Africa’s stand-up comedy legends including Sifiso Nene, Skhumba, Nonto R, Tumi Morake, Kedibone Mulaudzi, Mashabela, Chester Missing and many others, the event aspires to unite the past, present and future of stand-up comedy over three days of not just laughs, but learning, networking and solid relationship building towards a sustainable African stand-up comedy landscape.

Event

Powered by Savanna and Showmax, and it is the brainchild of South African comedy legend Stuart Taylor, and it will be a three-day long festival of non-stop laughs. In a line-up to be headlined by respected and super-decorated American stand-up comedian Eddie Griffin, as seen in popular sitcom ‘Malcolm and Eddie’, among many other television and movie features, the event is curated to celebrate and showcase the best of South African stand-up comedy on a grand global scale.  Notably, the event will also host the first-ever roast of celebrated media and TV personality, Minnie Dlamini, who will be roasted by a yet-to-be-revealed panel. For this year, with VIP-access to the entire diary of events within the festival, the Swati duo will feature in the event’s content creators’ stage, which will see them entertain a healthy segment of the event’s audience, interact with media and other content creators from South Africa and the rest of Africa.

Purpose

This stage is curated for the sole purpose of celebrating the best of African content creators who are killing it on social media, whilst also allowing them a chance to mingle, network amongst each other and secure potential business partnership in a selection of South Africa’s content creation-friendly business space. “We are beyond excited and honoured by this consideration and most certainly look forward to milking our presence here to the bone in terms of growing our network within our industry colleagues in and out of South Africa.

Representation

“Overall, we are also looking to delivering some solid representation for Eswatini on our stage and of course, through every interaction we will bag. Entirely, we cannot wait,” commented S’lwane, half of the duo and Gogo’s mischievous grandson. “We are ready and cannot wait to have fun with our industry colleagues and people in South Africa. We will have lots of fun for ourselves and Eswatini of course, and it goes without saying how this event comes right in time for our one man show in May, and we are going to this event to also draw some much-needed inspiration for our script, and we are confident we will return home refined and ready to write some more for the 3rd of May at Happy Valley,” commented Gogo Eswatini.
