MBABANE – Milliswa Vilane, a local Hip Hop musician, has proven that the sky is not the limit as the artist was interviewed by Hype Magazine.

In the interview, yet to be published, she spoke about her work, accolades and contributions to the culture so far and she was interviewed alongside Botswana’s Banyezus. The article featuring the two ladies focuses on African women, specifically these two, dominating in a male-dominated industry which is Hip Hop. In the intro it reads “Hip Hop has the power to affect the economy, set trends and open doors for creatives, especially now in the digital era. And as a Hip Hop community do we know the scarcity of women at the forefront can portray the industry as male-dominated sometimes.”

The introduction goes on to describe the interview that the magazine had with Milli, as they wrote, and Bayezus regarding their contribution to Hip Hop and the state of it in their respective countries.  In general, Hip Hop began as a male-dominated genre. It was characterised by defiance and rebellion. It comprised of witty rhymes and metaphoric punches coupled with the tale of underdog, who encountered certain wins against all impending odds but the genre’s, existence has been filtered thoughtout the years. Hype Magazine is the fastest growing youth culture magazine in South Africa (SA). It is also the only local Hip Hop magazine in Southern Africa. It’s the street ‘bible’ of Hip Hop culture across the African continent, and has been dubbed the largest one to date.

Tremendous

Although the magazine is based in Africa, is has never been restricted to only Africans, it has featured international superstars who have made tremendous contributions in the culture from the likes  of Nicki Minaj, Cassper Nyovest, AKA and United States (USA) based artist BOB,  to name a few. Currently, the local artist is featured alongside SA Hip Hop rising star, Kiddo CSA, who is also the cover on the magazine. Sipho Ncube  is a multifaceted artist with lyrical prowess and a silky, easygoing tone, who is soon to be a widely recognised rapper and a voice to be reckoned with. The South African popular fast-rising rapper, songwriter, and performer, is well-versed in the Hip-Hop and Rap scene. The scope highlighted from the second page of the digital form is that the artists speak more about their releases and how their singles are ‘changing’ the Hip Hop game.

Elevating

Born and bred in Mbabane, Eswatini and born a creative at heart, Milliswa is a writer, music head and content creator who is deeply passionate about elevating the Eswatini music landscape. She uses her existing platforms on social media as way to connect the international audience with Eswatini craft. She is able to beautifully paint a picture with words with the intention of capturing local talent. Milliswa is a lover of all things’ art- from music to poetry and storytelling. She is thus making a name for herself as a woman in an industry that is male- dominated.
