MBABANE – After successfully launching Makoya Bearings in the Kingdom, DJ Mfundo was awarded the position of being the sole distributor for the cider in Eswatini.

Just over a month ago, Mthokozisi Khathi, professionally known by his stage name DJ Tira launched his cider in Eswatini. The name of the cider is Makoya Bearings. Not only did the South African (SA) DJ launch his cider, but he also performed at the The XChange Lounge and Shisanyama.
The event which was dedicated to the official launch of the alcoholic cider saw some of Eswatini’s best artists hit the stage, and just last week Kool Swazi founder and DJ, Mfundo signed a deal with the brand to become the sole distributor of the drink in the country.

Appreciated

DJ Tira gave this publication a brief interview and shared that he was very happy with how his cider was well received in the country especially because he had always appreciated the support he got from Eswatini, and it only made sense that he launched in the country first after his home country. "The drink has been created to inspire many other entrepreneurs who wish to create a brand in southern Africa to show that it’s possible. I decided to create a cider because I knew many of my fans would enjoy a cider from Makoya Bearings. Eswatini is one of the countries that support DJ Tira in everything that he does, so it was important that when I start taking Bearings Cider outside of SA I consider Eswatini as one of the counties I look at,” said ‘Malume Bearings’.

DJ Tira in December announced his own thirst-quenching premium cider, which in recent events has been making room locally. The name of the cider is derived from his nickname ‘Malume Bearings’ and has a gold and green look and feel to it. So far, we’ve only seen 500ml cans that have six per cent alcohol volume. It is without a doubt that Tira has always been business orientated, and it’s unbelievable to see that after two decades in the industry, he is still relevant and his boss moves are inspiring.

Ordinary

It’s not out of the ordinary to see celebrities testing the waters of side-hustling. From Cassper Nyovest to Prince Kaybee to MacG, actors, actresses, musicians, podcasters and other famous figures are using their fame and fortune and turning to business. However, there’s a common trend in the type of business many are turning to. It is worth noting that the kingdom hasn’t seen any local musicians or artists venture into this type of business but have side hustles, from the likes of Snowee who is an international supermodel.
Snowee currently has her own fragrance by the name ‘Sante’.
