MBABANE – Ncandweni Christ Ambassadors were presented with an award by South African (SA) MTN Joyous Celebration during the restoration revival held in Johannesburg last Friday.

The revival was a joint two-day live recording worshipping session between the two Gospel groups held at the Emperors Palace in Kempton Park. This event also featured renowned Gospel musician Hlengiwe Mhlaba, who also performed during the show. Before the formal proceedings, the internationally acclaimed choir, Joyous Celebration, gave the local Gospel group an appreciation gift known as Ihubo Award for being the pioneers of traditional Gospel music. The award also came as an honor and respect for the local Gospel group’s role in impacting the lives of people and other Gospel artists through their music.

Handover

The handover was further shared on MTN Joyous Celebration social media platforms, which stated that the group was honoured for paving a way for Gospel musicians. “Ihubo Award from the hearts of MTN Joyous Celebration to @ncandwenichristambassadors. We honour and respect you for all you have done, paving the way for us,” read the statement. After receiving the award, the lead singer and current Nkilongo Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) Timothy Myeni shared his happiness on behalf of the group. He expressed that they appreciated the love and honour that God had been giving them as a group. “We thank God for having us under his wing, years have passed from 1997 he is still honouring us. As a group we are short of words for a such recognition, it humbles us to see that after all these years, our music is absorbed as if it’s new in South Africa.”

He went on to say that they appreciate how South Africans loved their music and it humbled them a lot. “This encourages us to never lose strength in producing more music, pending the non-existence of Compact Disks (CDs) we are now transitioning to digital sales and we hope we will perform well as we introduce ourselves in that way. We were too much used in CDs, but this time around it is clear that music has changed, it is not found manually, but digitally. We thank the collaboration given to us by Joyous Celebration as well as recognising us for composing songs that they themselves have used and sang,” said Myeni.

He went on to thank the choir’s co-founder Dr Lindelani Mkhize for giving them an opportunity to be part of MTN Joyous Celebration during the recent event they had in SA. “We are very grateful to Dr Mkhize for allowing us to be part and parcel of Joyous Celebration. “This makes us to be known even by fans of Joyous Celebration’s western songs. Since we performed jointly with the choir during the event. Ncandweni has stretched more wings following the collaboration as we have successfully marketed ourselves as a group,” said the artist.

Release

Myeni further revealed that they were yet to release new music as a group soon. “We are still yet to release more new music, we are still young and fresh. We haven’t run out of the messages to send in our music. What has been stopping us from delivering is that we had not yet understood the digital perspective of music, this has delayed us in releasing albums annually. But now that we are starting to establish a digital company that will distribute our music digitally, we hope we will be able to release albums normally. Next year during Easter services we will release our new album which we are still yet to decide on its title,” he concluded.
