MBABANE – Local fine artist Thembinkosi Mabuza has been featured on an international magazine, PEPPER.
The magazine is an inclusive publishing firm with an international staff across the United States(US), United Kingdom and Africa. It places heavy emphasis on the underlying human story in every subject they cover, with a collection of intimate editorial biographies, rich with creative and documentary imagery.

The magazine has an arts section that focuses on discovering talent from all corners of the world, and recently Eswatini. Mabuza has been a hot topic of discussion a few months ago on social media, for a feature on South African News; which is a South Africa (SA) online news publication of what’s trending.

Approached

Right after that buzz the artist was on the radar of Botswana Magazine for his work and was approached for an interview about his craft.  When reached for comment Mabuza said; “I got a message on my private messages and after a lot of back and forth, I was asked if I would agree to be feautred in their magazine.” Within three weeks he appeared in Botswana Magazine where he was speaking about his journey in the arts sector.

He’s also been the talk of the art town for a few months, after he painted a portrait of the late Queen Elizabeth II. His work was spotted by the US magazine and they approached him for a feature. Some of the questions that were posed to the artists were; “Tell us about your favourite piece so far, favourite medium, where do you draw inspiration from? how does art help your life and so on?” The artist shared that the recognition he was getting was humbling especially because it was outside the country and places where the population is huge and has well known fine artists.

The artist from Ludzeludze first got recognition and trended for his Instagram video post. In the post he was spotted with SA’s DJ Tira when he was at King Mswati III Airport greeting his fans. The video caused a major stir for Mabuza, as it had a lot views on social media. The post opened doors for him in Europe where a client from the continent approached him for work. In the post the famous DJ is seen receiving a drawing of himself from Mabuza on stage, and thanked him for the art piece.

Following this hype the artist has bagged an interview in SA on eTV’s The Morning Show. According to Mabuza they have promised to assist him in promoting and marketing his work and receive recognition in other countries.

Interview

He will be the first fine artist to have do an interview outside the country. “This has exposed me to the international market, as I will be featured on World Celebrity Magazine which is in Europe. I was also called for my work that was also posted by SA DBN Gogo and Q Twins on Facebook.” More so, he’s excited to be flying the Eswatini flag high and representing the country overseas.

In the near future Mabuza believes that he will have his own art exhibition in the country and in Europe. He believes that the local talent body in the country is capable of going above and beyond with everything they set their minds on. Next month the artist is scheduled to release a documentary video about his journey as an artist, how it began and how he got to where he is now.
